E-Board statement regarding MSTCA

To All MTFOA Members:

It is clear to the members of the Executive Board that there is currently considerable confusion among our membership regarding the relationship between the MTFOA and the Mass State Track Coaches Association. In an effort to provide clarity to that situation, the following:

For several decades the MTFOA has provided Officials to high school and college Track and Field and Cross-country meets upon request. Historically, the MTFOA Commissioner has assigned officials to all such events.

Until recently, this included events sponsored and conducted by the MSTCA. However, in the Fall of 2020, the MSTCA informed the MTFOA that they preferred to assign the officials for their events going forward. Consequently, this spring, several of our membership have been contacted by the MSTCA about officiating at MSTCA events. What to do?

While the leadership of MTFOA remain hopeful that there will eventually be some resolution to the current situation, at present there is no agreement in place between the two groups. As Officials, members of MTFOA are all independent contractors, and therefore may work or not as they individually choose. The good news is that Commissioner Meagher will be assigning the Officials for the MIAA meets later in June.

Respectfully,

Your MTFOA Executive Board
