MSTCA asks support for RLC legislation

The following letter was sent to MSTCA coaches and MSTCA leadership has asked MTFOA to likewise support the effort to make Reggie Lewis Center a statewide independent facility.
As you know, there has been a move to eliminate Roxbury Community College control of the Reggie Lewis Center for the last few months. This is due to a number of years where the College seemingly has forgotten the vision we had when this building was built. It has been a hassle to try to remind them that this is a statewide facility and from December to the end of March the interscholastic track community has preference in this facility. They also have lost a passion to keep the local community involved in the Center during the rest of the year.
We have been supporting a move for new leadership and it has created quite a stir in the legislative branch. We tried getting another college involved in the takeover of this facility. Those involved could not agree among themselves who should be the responsible guardian of the Center.
Finally, we have a bill being introduced to accomplish this goal. We need your help in contacting your state senator and state representative and asking them to support the bill that will be filed. As of today the bill is being sponsored in the Senate by Senator Forry and is called docket #2047 and in the House of Representatives by Representative Holmes and is called docket #3432.
The new bill would create the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center as an independent state facility controlled by a board of trustees. The Board of Trustees would be made up of five people, of whom three will be from the track community. This board will have our best interest in mind. Please look at the sample letter below and use it and ask your support group to send a something similar to this letter onto your legislators.
Please ask your parents, kids, friends to write a letter, email or text to your representative or senator. The more letters, emails and texts they get, the chances of them supporting this change of power will be greater.

Thank you for your support on this issue.

MSTCA leadership

I am writing this letter to you asking you to support the recently filled bill under the title docket #2047 in the Senate and #3432 in the House. We need you to consider co-sponsoring this bill. This bill will remove Roxbury Community College from control of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The Center will then be an independent state facility with a new board of trustees controlling it. We need a group that has a vision that this facility is a statewide facility for the high school track community to use during the winter season. It was created with this goal in mind and the present governing group has seemingly lost some of this vision. The time for change is now and we need your support.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
