New spike policy for new Reggie Lewis Center track

posted Nov 18, 2014, 8:28 AM by Paul Williams   [ updated Nov 18, 2014, 8:28 AM ]

As many of you know, the track at the Reggie Lewis Center was recently resurfaced. We now have a Mondo Super X 720 13mm product. It is Mondo’s  “top of the line” product that generates comfort from the hexagonal cushion backing of air and provides comfort and speed simultaneously. Therefore we should expect several records but most importantly – personal bests for all our student-athletes. We are the first to have it in the U.S.A.

With that said, we wanted to update you on the spike policy and please feel free to  circulate it. The Policy will be as follows:

·         Spikes are not allowed during training or weekday dual meets including Club practices.

·         Pyramid  (1/4”) spikes will be allowed only on weekend invitational meets.

·         Pyramid spikes (1/4”) will be allowed for your League Championship meet.

·         The League Commissioner MUST inform (via email or other written communications) us of who is designated to check for the appropriate spikes before the athletes enter the track during their League Championship meet.

·         If an athlete is found to be using spikes during a weekday meet, the League and the athlete may incur a penalty.

We just spent a million dollars to make sure your Massachusetts track athletes have the best surface to compete and train on and the policy is intended to preserve the surface. We need your cooperation and your assistance in spreading the word to the high schools.

I would like to the THANK Frank Mooney and his MSTCA Executive Board and Dick Baker of the MIAA who have been  so supportive in making this project a reality.
